TRANSY HOUSE...

 A brief summary

RustyMae Moore

Transy House is the informal name which we, a group of transsexual and transgender people (and friends), have given to our queer family. We have been living together in Brooklyn, New York, since 1994. Our family roots go back to Sylvia Rivera’s S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries) of the early 1970's, and Chelsea Goodwin’s “House of Selina” from the 1980s. In some ways we are in the tradition of the famous New York City houses such as The House of Extravaganza, The House of La Beija, and The House of Continental.

Transy House is about transexual and transgender people supporting each other in the struggle to survive in a sometimes hostile world. We believe in taking political action to secure a social and cultural space for trans people in the emerging global culture. We are a part of the effort to educate people about trans culture, and the effort to educate trans people how to survive in the new millennium.

One way that some of the people in Transy House approach the problem of economic survival is to work with the small company which is a part of the house, which does business as Direct Link Marketing. Direct Link does telemarketing for a variety of for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and also works in the marketing of videotapes, audiotapes, books and CDs created by transgender artists. Direct Link Marketing is run by Rusty Mae Moore and Chelsea Goodwin.

Current residents in Transy House are Antonia Cambareri, Chelsea Goodwin, Julia Murray, Sylvia Rivera, Stephanie Baughman, Adriana D. and Rusty Mae Moore. Other people who have lived here over the years include Kitty Graham (Kitty Castro), Kelly Bishop, Kristianna Thomas, Jessica, Brittany Paige, and Joseph Johnson.
